Exercise: Traveling to Another Time and Realm

This exercise is kindly given by Camilla Persson, who is on the board of the ASSMPI (American Society for Standards in Mediumship and Psychical Investigation). Camilla is a resident expert in out-of-body exploration and an author of many works on the subject. She currently resides and teaches in Sweden and is a member of the Swiss SPR.

Exploring other times and space through inner journeys demands an open mind, right intentions, and a strong will. Back in history there was a secret code of prerequisites for astral travelers, only for the initiate. It said :
 
  • To know
  • To desire
  • To have faith
  • To be silent
To be able to achieve real astral journeys, you must raise your bodily vibration. By doing this you achieve the state that is the catalyst to your leaving through your crown chakra. This will automatically give you an altered state of consciousness and allow you to reach other planes of existence, such as astral planes and the higher realms of the spirit world. It is called an “inner” journey, but in fact those worlds are not more “inner” than the physical one; it just appears to be like that. These experiences will give you another insight and a different overview.


The key to astral journeys is relaxation and concentration, but both at the same time. You might realize that relaxation and increased focus in mind are in conflict, as you often fall asleep when you get very relaxed. This, however, will decrease after some training and become a natural state for you, where you don’t lose consciousness but instead learn about your hidden resources. When you are ready, you can try to deepen the muscular relaxation as much as possible and, at the same time, increase your awareness. The goal is to achieve a state where your body will sleep but not your mind. You are making a change within yourself with the result of losing earth consciousness. It will be replaced by spiritual awareness, which is a superconscious state of mind.

This is a short exercise that you can try. Do not think that you will be able to achieve success instantly, because it takes some time and practice to induce astral travel effectively. Please note that the time indication is just a suggestion.

Step One, Approximately Twenty Minutes: Muscular and Mental Relaxation

Lie down on a bed or sofa. Take a deep breath and relax thoroughly. Allow only a happy mental and emotional state when entering spiritual exercises. Drop all your daytime problems and focus on nothing. Try to be calm in mind, and if you have any fears for the exercise and the unknown, please deal with that before doing this exercise. To keep alert, place all your attention, all your consciousness, a bit outside your forehead, just in the third eye, right between the eyebrows, but 4 inches outside your face. Try to hold your spinal cord straight and avoid moving your body. Walk through the body and press the muscles by physical action with your conscious mind, then relax the muscles each in turn and from top to toe.
Allow yourself to relax more and more. If there is any emotional disturbance in your mind, just ignore the thoughts, watch them drift away, and don’t get attached to them. Your thought pattern will slow down for now, and the only thing you should focus on is to get thoroughly relaxed without falling asleep.

 Use a breathing technique to mesmerize yourself and help spirit guides to link to you, but don’t drop your consciousness. Remember, your only intention is to deliberately project yourself into a past time and reality.

Step Two, Approximately Thirty Minutes: Linking to Your Inner Light Guide

When you are totally relaxed, try formulating a wish to your inner light guide and ask to see a glimpse of a past life. When you telepathically (in your mind) communicate with your guide’s lines, it will respond in such a way as you are capable to receive. Try to eliminate all other thoughts and ideas and just focus on your wish to explore another time. Be patient and wait for the opportunity. Be aware that you may not be allowed to view this because of the level of your own soul growth. All you can do is ask, and if it is in alignment with your highest good, it will happen.
It’s important to understand that some people will immediately be given an ecstatic conscious experience of another time and place that will astound them for months or even years, while others will have less magnificence and perhaps think it was only a daydream or a fantasy. If that is the case, try to be patient. Keep in mind that there are many ways to perform inner journeys, and some of them are just mind travels not using the astral body. Try not to have any preconceived ideas about how the journey will take place. The answers to your prayers will come; the delivery from spirit is given when spirit thinks the time is appropriate. It’s a true gift from spirit to enlighten you, and it could be on top of whatever you experienced in your life.

Step Three, Approximately Ten Minutes: Content Analysis

Write down your experience and what it meant to you. Repeat the exercise a couple of days later and see if something has changed. Enjoy!
